Congress’ Mir denies reports of cracks in NC-Congress alliance

SRINAGAR, Nov 19 (Agencies): Senior Congress leader and former J&K Congress chief Ghulam Ahmad Mir Tuesday dispelled reports of split in NC-Congress alliance in J&K over certain issues, said there is a mutual understanding between the two, and no cracks exist as of now.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of an event held in south Kashmir’s Anantnag, Mir refuted reports about cracks between National Conference & Congress alliance.

While commenting circuitously on Article 370 restoration, the senior Congress leader said both parties have different domain of working as one represents the regional aspiration, while another stands for national interest.

“World knows that NC is a regional political party, and regional agenda is their top priority. While Congress is a national political party so its affairs will run according to national perspective,” Mir as per Greater Kashmir said.

“Neither we will become NC nor they will become Congress,” Mir added, and continued “There is a mutual understanding on certain issues, and our ideology matches at some place from decades”.

“If you will talk of some minor skirmishes between the two, it will remain in place, but such things will not impact our mutual understanding,” Mir remarked.

Notably war of words between NC and Congress leadership have surfaced over Article 370 restoration, after INC president Malikarjun Kharge at a press conference stated that “Union Minister Amit Shah claims Congress wants to bring back Article 370, but who is Congress has ever stated this? Parliament has settled this issue. If BJP truly believes it, let them say it openly in Kashmir now that elections are over”.Jammu and Kashmir tourism

Senior NC leader and Srinagar MP Aga Ruhullah Mehdi had in this backdrop criticised Kharge for misinterpreting the resolution passed by the assembly, saying, “No INC president or JKPCC president has a right to misinterpret the resolution passed by the J&K Legislative Assembly in the last session. The purpose of that resolution is to express the people’s disapproval of all the amendments and unconstitutional abrogation of the guaranteed (Special) Status of J&K from the year 1953 to 2019.”
