Dr. Vivek reviews organisational activities, expands BTSM Base in Leh
LEH, Jun 30: Dr. Vivek Sharma, National Co-Convenor of the Intellectual Forum of Bharat Tibet Sahyog Manch (BTSM) and President of BTSM for the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, accompanied by the State General Secretary of BTSM Mr Rajindar Sadotra, undertook a significant organisational visit to Ladakh to strengthen the organisation’s activities and expand its outreach across the region.
During the visit, the BTSM delegation held a series of meetings with local members, social workers, and well-wishers to deliberate on the future roadmap for the organisation in Ladakh. The delegation also visited the Tibetan refugee settlements at Choglamsar and Agling, where they interacted with members of the Tibetan community and discussed issues relating to the preservation of Tibetan culture, promotion of Indo-Tibetan friendship, and the overall welfare of the Tibetan people.
The delegation further visited the Tibetan Market in Leh, interacting with traders and local residents to understand their concerns and appreciate their efforts in preserving Tibetan heritage, traditions, and culture.
As part of the tour, Dr. Vivek Sharma and the State General Secretary met with faculty members of the University of Ladakh. The discussions centred on the historical and cultural ties between India and Tibet, the importance of academic collaboration, and the need to promote research on Buddhist philosophy, Himalayan culture, and Indo-Tibetan civilisational relations. The delegation appreciated the University’s contribution towards higher education and the preservation of the Himalayan region’s rich cultural heritage.
The delegation also participated in the first Mahakumbh of the Sindhu Darshan Yatra held in Leh, which witnessed the participation of devotees, scholars, and social leaders from across the country. The event highlighted the cultural, spiritual, and national significance of the sacred Sindhu River while reinforcing the message of national unity and cultural integration.
On the sidelines of the programme, the delegation held a separate organisational meeting with Dr. Indresh Kumar, senior RSS leader and Guide of Bharat Tibet Sahyog Manch. The meeting focused on strengthening and expanding BTSM’s activities across the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
Following consultations with the State General Secretary, Dr. Vivek Sharma formally nominated Mr. Arun Gupta, a prominent businessman from Jammu, as the Cashier of Bharat Tibet Sahyog Manch for the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. Members welcomed the appointment and expressed confidence that his administrative and professional experience would further strengthen the organisation.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Indresh Kumar emphasised the strategic, cultural, and civilisational importance of Ladakh and called upon office-bearers and members to intensify efforts towards promoting awareness about Tibet, preserving Buddhist heritage, and fostering national integration through meaningful social, cultural, and intellectual initiatives.
The meeting was also attended by Mr. Devinder Padha, In-charge of Ladakh for BTSM, Prof Sonam Jodan University of Ladakh along with other office-bearers and members, who reaffirmed their commitment to expanding the organisation’s presence and implementing various public outreach programmes across the Union Territory.
The visit concluded with a collective resolve to intensify BTSM’s activities in Ladakh through greater public participation, academic engagement, and closer interaction with the Tibetan community, further strengthening the bonds of cultural harmony and national unity.
