RS PURA, Jun 30: Senior Congress leader and Incharge RS Pura–Jammu South constituency Amrit Bali has raised serious concern over what he described as “administrative callousness” of both the Union Government and the UT administration led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, alleging that people across Jammu and Kashmir are facing worsening living conditions on multiple fronts.
Addressing public issues, Bali said that common citizens are under severe pressure due to rising inflation, record unemployment levels, erratic power supply despite installation of smart meters, and the burden of inflated electricity bills being issued by the Power Development Department (PDD). He said that instead of relief, households are facing increased financial stress and uncertainty. He also highlighted the deteriorating situation of essential services, particularly irregular drinking water supply in several rural and semi-urban areas, which has left residents struggling for basic daily needs, especially during the ongoing peak summer and agricultural season.
Drawing attention to infrastructure decay, Bali pointed out the poor condition of the RS Pura–Satwari road stretch, where potholes and damaged surfaces have become a major hazard for commuters, affecting daily movement, transport efficiency, and emergency services.Expressing deep concern for the farming community, he said that the ongoing paddy cultivation season has been severely impacted due to unscheduled and prolonged power cuts, along with inadequate irrigation facilities. He noted that farmers are unable to run tube wells consistently, leading to crop stress and growing anxiety among agricultural households.
Bali further stated that youth in the region continue to suffer due to lack of employment opportunities, while small traders and daily wage earners are also facing economic slowdown due to weak demand and rising costs of essential commodities.
He said that across Jammu and Kashmir, citizens are additionally dealing with issues such as frequent power outages, water shortages, deteriorating road networks, healthcare pressure in government hospitals, and rising cost of living, all of which together reflect a deepening governance deficit.
Calling for immediate corrective measures, Amrit Bali urged both the Union and UT administrations to prioritise uninterrupted power and water supply, repair critical road infrastructure, ensure fair billing under smart meter systems, and launch targeted employment and irrigation support programmes for the farming community.
He warned that continued neglect of public concerns would further aggravate hardship and deepen public frustration across all sections of society.
