R S PURA, May 13: In a significant step towards building a healthier and safer society, Government Degree College (GDC) R.S. Pura, in collaboration with Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHSS) R.S. Pura, Government Boys Higher Secondary School (GBHSS) R.S. Pura, and Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Dablehar, organized a series of awareness contests on “Nasha Mukt Abhiyan” under the patronage of the Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Preetpal Kour.
The Principals of the collaborating schools RachnaTomar, Bhawna Abrol and Irwinder Kour were invited to grace the occasion. The formal welcome address on the occasion was delivered by Dr. Shivani Manchanda.
“Nasha Mukt Abhiyan” is a public awareness campaign aimed at eliminating drug abuse and encouraging youth to adopt a healthy, positive, and addiction-free lifestyle. The campaign seeks to spread awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse and emphasizes the importance of mental and physical well-being through the collective efforts of educational institutions, community leaders, healthcare professionals, law enforcement agencies, and volunteers.
As part of the initiative, students from the collaborating schools enthusiastically participated in a series of activities organized on the college campus, including a painting competition, essay writing competition, and symposium. The participating students were provided with color kits and other essential materials required for the competitions. The evaluation of the various competitions was carried out by the judges appointed for each respective activity Dr. Anupama Pandotra, Prof. Radika Mahajan and Dr. Sudesh Kumar for painting competition, Prof. Harpreet Kour and Prof Sanjeev Upadhyay for symposium and Dr. Raj Jamwal and Prof. Priyadarshani for essay writing competition.
The performances of the students were evaluated by the respective judges on the basis of creativity, presentation, and clarity of thought on the assigned themes. In the symposium competition, ManmeetKour secured the first position, Simran Devi secured the second position, and Shivangi secured the third position. In the painting competition, Alisha, Sanjeev Singh, and Vishal Kumar bagged the first, second, and third positions respectively. Similarly, in the essay writing competition, AkshitaChib, ManviChoudhary and Aditya Sharma secured the first, second, and third positions respectively. The participation certificates were given to the participants and winners were presented with the mementos
The campaign emphasized collective responsibility and encouraged citizens to actively contribute towards creating a drug-free environment. Special focus was laid on empowering young people with knowledge, guidance, and opportunities to help them stay away from substance abuse.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal GDC R.S. Pura, Prof. (Dr.) Preetpal Kour stated, “Drug addiction is not only a personal challenge but also a social concern that affects families, communities, and the future of our youth. Through this campaign, we aim to educate, support, and inspire individuals to choose a healthier path.”
The programme concluded with a pledge by students and staff members to work collectively towards making society free from the menace of drugs.
The whole event was organized by Drug De addiction committee, Cultural and Literary Committee under the aegis of IQAC.
The formal vote of thanks was given by Dr. Sunil Kumar Mangoch, Assistant Professor Dogri.
