JAMMU, Jun 22: In a significant international engagement focused on the welfare, dignity, and rights of older persons, the Home for the Aged & Infirm (Vridh Ashram), Amphalla, Jammu held a virtual meeting with representatives of HelpAge International, a globally respected organization working to improve the lives of older people across the world.
The Home was represented by Er. Pankaj Gupta, President; Dr. Dinesh Gupta, Secretary; Shri Rajinder Singh, Member, Managing Committee; and Shri Sat Pal Sharma, Member, Managing Committee. HelpAge International was represented by Ms. Rose Taaka Bwire, Mr. Benil Thavarasa, and Ms. Farah Alsharief.
The interaction provided an opportunity to exchange ideas on the growing challenges associated with ageing, including loneliness, social isolation, neglect, healthcare needs, and the importance of creating age-friendly communities where older persons can live with dignity, security, and a sense of belonging.
During the discussion, the Home for the Aged & Infirm shared its ongoing efforts to provide not only shelter and care but also compassion, emotional support, respect, and opportunities for active and meaningful living for senior citizens. Participants emphasized that older persons are not merely recipients of care; they are repositories of wisdom, experience, and values that enrich society.
Both sides agreed that as populations age across the globe, stronger partnerships, knowledge-sharing, and innovative approaches will be essential to ensure that no older person is left behind. The meeting also highlighted the need to challenge ageism and promote a culture where ageing is viewed with respect rather than vulnerability.
The interaction concluded on a positive note with a shared commitment to remain engaged and explore opportunities for future collaboration in advancing the well-being and dignity of older persons.
At a time when many elderly individuals face loneliness and abandonment, the meeting served as a powerful reminder that every older person deserves not only care, but also love, respect, recognition, and the opportunity to age with dignity.
