Zorawar calls for regular operation of Tawi Lake during Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra

JAMMU, Jun 19: BJP Spokesperson Zorawar Singh Jamwal has demanded that the artificial lake on River Tawi be made operational on a regular basis during the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Yatra, describing it as an additional recreational facility for lakhs of pilgrims expected to visit Jammu.

In a statement, Zorawar said the lake, located near the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas, could become a major attraction for pilgrims arriving for the annual pilgrimage. He said the facility would not only benefit Amarnath Yatris but also devotees visiting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi and local residents.

Referring to the successful trial runs of the project, Jamwal questioned why the Omar Abdullah-led government had not made the artificial lake a permanent feature despite its potential to promote tourism and recreational activities in Jammu. He said proper boating facilities and water sports activities should be introduced at the lake to make it a star attraction of the City of Temples.

The BJP leader also demanded that the Suryaputri Tawi Aarti be organized regularly every evening from the commencement of the Shri Amarnath Yatra till its conclusion on Raksha Bandhan. He said the aarti has the potential to become a major spiritual and cultural attraction for pilgrims and tourists alike.

Zorawar alleged that the National Conference government was neglecting the interests of the Jammu region. He particularly criticized ministers from Jammu in the present government, saying they should take the lead in ensuring the operationalization of the Tawi lake project.

He urged the concerned departments, including Roads and Buildings and Irrigation and Flood Control, to take immediate steps for making the lake functional before the start of the pilgrimage. He said timely action would enhance facilities for pilgrims, boost tourism and showcase Jammu as an attractive destination for visitors from across the country.

Zorawar expressed hope that the government would act promptly and ensure that the Tawi lake and related facilities are made available during the upcoming Shri Amarnath Yatra.
