Ishaan, Avni clinch U-17 titles in VCA Open Jammu Chess Tournament

JAMMU, May 10: Ishaan Chowdhary and Avni Sharma emerged victorious in the VCA 2nd Open Jammu Under-17 (Boys and Girls) Chess Tournament conducted under the aegis of the All J&K Chess Association in accordance with FIDE Laws of Chess.

Ishaan Chowdhary delivered an impressive unbeaten performance in the boys section, securing six points out of seven rounds to claim the Under-17 title. In the girls section, Avni Sharma lifted the championship trophy after scoring five points with a series of remarkable performances.

In the Under-11 category, Triyansh Verma and Manushree Nischal won the boys and girls titles respectively, both finishing with four points.

The prize distribution ceremony was attended by sports journalist and chess enthusiast Sanjeev Sharma along with former J&K champion and renowned chess coach Vivek Bharti. The dignitaries presented title trophies and cash prizes worth Rs 3,000 to the winners and applauded the young participants for their dedication and sporting spirit.

The tournament witnessed exciting contests across seven rounds, with several young players showcasing exceptional talent and competitive spirit. Ishaan maintained consistency throughout the competition, while Avni displayed remarkable determination to secure the girls crown.

The event provided an important platform for budding chess players of Jammu and Kashmir to gain competitive exposure and further strengthen the growing chess culture in the region.
