DODA, Jun 10: The seventh day of the Inter-Zonal District Level Tournament 2026 witnessed thrilling contests in Volleyball (U-19 Boys) and Wrestling (U-17 and U-19 Boys), with young athletes from across District Doda displaying exceptional skill, determination and sportsmanship.
The tournament brought together participants from the zones of Assar, Ghat, Gundna, Bhalessa, Bhagwah, Doda, Bhalla, Bhaderwah, Bhatyas and Thathri. The day’s competitions highlighted the growing sporting talent in the district as athletes competed with enthusiasm and discipline in pursuit of top honours.
The tournament is being organized under the guidance of Anuradha Gupta (JKAS), Director General, Youth Services and Sports J&K, and Inderjeet Singh Parihar, Joint Director, Youth Services and Sports Jammu. The event is being conducted under the overall supervision of Ashok Kumar, DYSSO Doda, whose efforts have ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the tournament. The initiative continues to provide a valuable platform for young sportspersons to showcase their abilities and strengthen the sports culture in the district.
The U-19 Boys Volleyball matches attracted considerable attention, with teams exhibiting excellent teamwork, coordination and fighting spirit. Several closely contested matches kept spectators engaged as players battled hard to secure victories for their respective zones.
In wrestling, participants in the U-17 and U-19 categories impressed with their strength, technique and determination. The competitions produced several exciting bouts and showcased the high standard of wrestling talent emerging from different parts of the district.
In the U-19 Boys Wrestling competition, Mohd Akram of Zone Bhaderwah won the gold medal in the 57 kg category, while Abdul Rashid of Zone Bhalessa secured silver. In the 61 kg category, Vijay Kumar of Zone Thathri claimed gold and Maroof Raja of Zone Bhalessa took silver. Kamran Bhat of Zone Doda won gold in the 65 kg category, while Shamim Ahmed of Zone Thathri earned silver. In the 70 kg category, Krish Parihar of Zone Thathri secured gold and Ankush Manhas of Zone Doda won silver. The 74 kg category saw Danish Zaffar of Zone Bhaderwah clinch gold, while Maroof Ahmed of Zone Thathri finished with silver.
The organizing committee congratulated all medal winners and participants for their outstanding performances. The competitions were officiated by an experienced panel of technical officials from the Department of Youth Services and Sports, including PELs, PEMs, PETs, REK teachers and NYCs, ensuring fair play, transparency and the smooth conduct of all events.
