JAMMU, Dec 12: Chairman Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Jammu and Kashmir for Administrative Engagement and Minority Affairs, and District Development Council (DDC) Member Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony has asked the government to handover the graft case against Tehsildar Rohit Sharma to CBI for a thorough probe.
In a statement issued to media persons, Tony said that the case of Tehsildar Rohit Sharma is the fountain head of corruption in J&K and the way things are being handled show the non-seriousness of the government to contain rampant corruption. He said that on side the LG Manoj Sinha has been claiming that the government has waged a war against the corrupt but on the other side such cases counter the stance taken by the head of J&K. He said that looking into the particular case of Rohit Sharma, it seems that the entire government machinery is hell bent to shield the corrupt officer as every possible effort is being made to destroy the evidence against the delinquent official. He said that despite being caught red-handed, he has been attached to Financial Commissioner Office, which is a higher office.
The senior AAP leader also expressed concern over withdrawal of affidavit by ACB claiming that through this move the anti-graft body has cleared decks for Rohit to get bail and also an opportunity to destroy all the evidence against him.
“Big sharks of the corrupt world are sitting at the helm of affairs in the Civil Secretariat to save Rohit Sharma because they are deeply worried that they will also be held by the neck by the long arms of law. If the fight against corruption initiated by the LG Sinha is not a Jumla then it’s a fit case to handover to CBI,” Tony added and appealed to all the political parties to come out openly against such corrupt officials.Tony appealed to LG Manoj Sinha to intervene in the matter and handover the probe to CBI for a free and fair investigation. He said that the person who caught Rohit red-handed while indulging in corruption is feeling threatened as it has been alleged that he has been receiving threats. He urged the government to take adequate action against the corrupt officials and set an example in J&K so that a clear message goes into society to deter others from indulging into such illegal acts.
