‘Victory of J&K’: BJP’s Gulam Ali on nomination to Rajya Sabha; thanks PM Modi

JAMMU, Sep 11 (Agencies): Jammu and Kashmir BJP leader, Gulam Ali, a day after his nomination to Rajya Sabha by President Draupadi Murmu, said its a win for the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir. “In BJP we don’t work for the position. I worked selflessly for the party and party saw my loyalty, and work. I want to thank PM Modi. It’s not my win but a win for the entire Jammu and Kashmir,” said Gulam Ali upon receiving congratulatory messages from his supporters.

“PM Modi had said that when we will come to power, we will empower those who do not have political power. PM Modi did what he said. This is not just a victory for the Gujjar community but for all communities,” he added.

President Droupadi Murmu on the recommendation of the Central government nominated Gulam Ali to the Upper House of Parliament, read a Union Home Ministry notification on Saturday.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-clause (a) of clause (I) of article 80 of the Constitution of India, read with clause (3) of that article, the President is pleased to nominate Shri Gulam Ali to the Council of States to fill the vacancy caused due to the retirement of one of the nominated members,” a statement by the MHA read.

BJP’s IT Cell head Amit Malviya also lauded the appointment calling it a ‘significant step’ as it gives recognition to the Gurjar community living in the Valley.

“The President on the recommendation of GoI has appointed Shri Gulam Ali, a Gurjar Muslim, from J&K, to the Rajya Sabha. This is a significant step assuming that prior to abrogation of Article 370, the community was literally not recognised and all social benefits to them were denied,” Malviya wrote in a tweet.
