Collective action key to safeguarding J&K’s fragile ecology: Adv Devraj Sharma

JAMMU, Jun 5: On the occasion of World Environment Day, Advocate Devraj Sharma extended warm greetings to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and urged citizens to actively participate in environmental conservation efforts to ensure a greener, cleaner, and healthier future for coming generations.

In his message, Advocate Sharma emphasized that the protection of nature is not merely an environmental responsibility but a collective duty towards humanity. He highlighted that Jammu and Kashmir, blessed with breathtaking landscapes, dense forests, pristine rivers, snow-clad mountains, and rich biodiversity, faces increasing environmental challenges due to climate change, deforestation, pollution, and unplanned urbanization.

Advocate Sharma called upon people from all walks of life, particularly the youth, educational institutions, social organizations, and community groups, to join hands in large-scale plantation drives and awareness campaigns aimed at restoring ecological balance across the Union Territory.“Planting a tree today is an investment in the future. Every sapling nurtured today will contribute towards cleaner air, better water conservation, and a healthier environment for generations to come,” he said.

He stressed that environmental protection should not remain confined to annual celebrations but must become an integral part of daily life. Simple yet impactful actions such as reducing plastic usage, conserving water, protecting forests, and promoting sustainable practices can significantly contribute to environmental preservation.

Referring to Jammu and Kashmir’s ecological sensitivity, Advocate Sharma noted that safeguarding natural resources is essential for maintaining the region’s environmental stability, agricultural productivity, tourism potential, and overall quality of life. He urged citizens to act responsibly and become active stakeholders in preserving the Union Territory’s unique natural heritage.

Advocate Sharma further stated that a healthy environment forms the foundation of a prosperous society and reiterated the need for collective efforts to combat environmental degradation. He appealed to the public to make World Environment Day a meaningful occasion by pledging to plant trees, keep surroundings clean, and spread awareness about environmental protection.

Concluding his message, he expressed hope that united community action would help create a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring that future generations inherit a healthy and thriving environment.
