52,000 pilgrims offer prayer at Amarnath cave shrine, fresh batch over seven thousand leave from Jammu

JAMMU, Jul 4 : Over 52,000 pilgrims have offered their prayers at Amarnath cave shrine so far since the commencment of the yatra, while another batch of 7282 pilgrims left here today for the twin camps of Nunwan and Baltal in Kashmir for onward journey , official said.
So far, over 52,000 pilgrims had offered their prayers at the 3880 meter high cave shrine, housing the naturally formed ice-Shivlingam in Hilayas, they said, adding these also included sizeable number of women as well.
Amid tight security, a total of 7282 pilgrims left Bhagwati Nagar base camp here in a convoy of 332 vehicles , officials said.Of these, 5866 are males, 1206 females, 22 children , 179 sadhus and 9 sadhvis, they added.
About 2901 pilgrims heading for Baltal were the first to leave in 150 vehicles around 3.40 a.m followed by the second convoy of 182 vehicles carrying 4381 pilgrims for Nunwan in Pahalgam.
The annual 43-day yatra commenced on June 30 from the twin base camps of Nunwan in Pahalgam area in south Kashmir’s anantnag district and shorter route of Baltal in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
The yatra is scheduled to end on August 11 on the occasion Shravan Purnima coinciding Raksha Bandhan.
