JAMMU / YOL, Jun 4: On the 54th day of the ongoing 78-day Chaturveda Yajna being conducted at Ved Mandir, Yol, renowned Vedic scholar and Yoga Acharya Swami Ram Swarup Ji delivered an enlightening discourse, emphasizing the eternal relevance of Vedic knowledge in guiding humanity towards peace, prosperity and righteous living. Addressing devotees and seekers, he explained the profound message of Rigveda Mantra 10/53/6, wherein God commands all human beings to contemplate, study and practice the teachings contained in the Vedas.
Swami Ji stated that until the era of the Mahabharata, society remained firmly rooted in Vedic principles. The regular study and recitation of Vedic mantras, association with learned scholars, and performance of Agnihotra and Yajnas fostered harmony, prosperity and spiritual advancement across the world. He noted that references found in the Bal Kand (Sarga 4) of the Valmiki Ramayana, the Mahabharata and other ancient Rishi-authored texts vividly describe an age marked by righteousness, social order and lasting peace. However, after the Mahabharata war, humanity gradually drifted away from the guidance of learned sages and abandoned the practices of Vedic study, Yajna and other noble deeds. As a result, the radiant light of Vedic wisdom began to fade, giving rise to ignorance and moral decline.
Drawing an analogy, Swami Ji explained that just as the absence of the sun plunges the world into darkness, the disappearance of Vedic knowledge from human life leads to widespread confusion and ignorance. Without understanding the Vedas, people remain unaware of the divine guidance, noble commandments and welfare-oriented teachings bestowed by God. Consequently, they often follow self-created paths and indulge in actions driven by personal whims, ultimately wasting the invaluable opportunity of human birth. He stressed that true knowledge, moral strength and spiritual elevation can only be attained through listening to, studying and reflecting upon the Vedas under the guidance of competent scholars.
Elaborating further, Swami Ram Swarup Ji referred to Yajurveda Mantra 4/1, explaining that men and women should utilize this precious human life to seek the company of learned persons, honour them through service and charity, and study all four Vedas. Such efforts, he said, lead to the growth of knowledge, food security, prosperity and the removal of suffering from life.
He also highlighted the message of Yajurveda Mantra 1/1, which teaches that human birth is fundamentally meant for Yajna and noble deeds dedicated to the welfare of society. Material pursuits, he added, should remain secondary to the higher purpose of selfless service, spiritual growth and the pursuit of truth. Swami Ji urged devotees to listen to Vedic teachings regularly, cultivate wisdom and become enlightened individuals capable of contributing positively to society and the world at large.
