Need to get united for a joint struggle for grant of OBC status to Jats: Ch Manmohan

SUCHETGARH, MaY 23: Ch Manmohan Singh, President AIJMS and former Mayor Jammu while raising serious concern over the discrimination being faced by the members of Jat community on account of non granting of (Other Backward Classes (OBC) status to the community, has asserted that the members of the community need to initiate a joint struggle to get this significant demand fulfilled. He raised the concern during a meeting of All India Jat Maha Sabha (AIJMS) was held under his chairmanship at border village Sai Mola in Suchetgarh constituency here today.
Addressing the meeting Ch Manmohan said that Jat community in 11 states of the country are enjoying status of OBC but the Jats in J&K Union Territory stand deprived of this much needed status.
Meanwhile, during the meeting, the community members also raised the issue of Bandh being constructed by BSF at the border in Sai village. They said that the land earmarked for the Bandh belonged to Custodian Department but the same had been allotted to Jats but the ownership rights have not been conferred on the Jat community people. They also mentioned that the same Bandh are also constructed in border villages of district Samba. They lamented that consequently these allotees will not get the compensation for the land being used for constructing the aforesaid Bandh. They asserted that this is sheer injustice with the people of Jat community.
After giving them a keen and patient hearing Ch Manmohan said that he will arrange a meeting with the Divisional Commissioner Jammu so that steps are taken by the administration for ensuring adequate compensation to the affected people of the Jat community.
Ch Manmohan added that till date there are several custodian lands allotted to Jat community of which the ownerships rights have not been provided to the said community members.
Meanwhile the community members also raised the issue of Union Govt’s announcement of Rs. 25 lakh compensation to the community members out of which only Rs. 5.5 lakh has been paid as the first installment of compensation. When would the next installment of the rest of amount be provided to the displaced persons, they questioned.
Ch Manmohan said that all these issues raised during today’s meeting will get resolved when the community members strongly united in fight for their just and genuine cause. He asked them to rise above from party politics to get the issues resolved. He said that mass awareness programmes need to be organized to make the people of the community aware about the benefits of OBC status and the need for a joint struggle being inevitable to get the demands fulfilled.
