UDHAMPUR, Jun 3: The District Level Inter-Zonal Tournament for Under-14 and Under-17 Girls, organized by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), Udhampur, continued with great enthusiasm and active participation from players representing different zones and institutions across the district. The athletics events were conducted amid a spirit of healthy competition and sportsmanship. District Youth Services and Sports Officer Udhampur, Tarsem Singh, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and encouraged the participants to display discipline, dedication and determination in their respective events. A total of 178 girl athletes participated in various track and field competitions, showcasing remarkable talent and competitive spirit.
In the U/14 girls’ running events, Aarsha Devi of M.S. Seen Brahmana, Tikri secured first position in the 100 metres race, while Anjali Devi of M.S. Jankair, Ramnagar won the 200 metres event. Ritu Devi of H.S. Babey emerged victorious in the 400 metres race and Vansika Devi of HSS Sewna, Chenani claimed the top spot in the 600 metres event. In the U/17 category, Anu Jasmidha of APS Udhampur won the 100 metres race, while Bansika Katoch of APS Udhampur secured first place in the 200 metres event. Shallu Devi, also from APS Udhampur, won the 400 metres race. Gudia Devi of HS Bali, Jib secured first place in the 800 metres event, while Sapna Devi and Shova Devi, both from HSS Sewna, Chenani, won the 1500 metres and 3000 metres races respectively.
In the field events, Anjali Devi of Zone Ramnagar and Khushi Malhotra of Zone Ghordi secured first and second positions respectively in the U/14 girls’ long jump competition. In the U/17 long jump event, Shreya Thakur of Zone Kulwanta clinched first place, while Ayushi Dogra of Zone Tikri secured second position. In the U/14 high jump event, Aditi of HSS Chenani stood first, followed by Babli Kumari of MS Sankri, Panchari in second place and Rajni Devi of MS Thaplal, Ramnagar in third. In the U/17 high jump event, Ulfat Bano of HSS Chenani secured first place, while Manvi Bali of Happy Model School, Udhampur finished second.
In the U/14 shot put competition, Aarya Sharma of DPS Udhampur secured first position, Kiran Devi of HS Chenani finished second and Shaheen Akhter of MS Darang, Panchari secured third place. In the U/17 category, Arshad Begum of HS Babey won the event, Mandira Katoch of NPH School Chenani secured second place and Monika Bharti of HSS Ramnagar finished third. In the U/14 discus throw event, Swati Sharma of HSS Barta, Jib claimed first place, followed by Mansi Devi of HS Thial, Babey and Preeti Magotra of MS Upper Garnai, Tikri in second and third positions respectively. In the U/17 discus throw competition, Monika Bharti of HSS Ramnagar emerged winner, while Gungun of BBSVP Udhampur and Sunali Verma of HS Thalora, Majalta secured second and third positions respectively.
In the U/17 javelin throw event, Priya Sharma of HS Thial, Babey secured first place, followed by Priya Rajput of BBSVP Udhampur in second position and Bhumika Sharma of HSS Barta, Jib in third place.
The tournament is continuing successfully and providing a valuable platform for young athletes of Udhampur district to display their sporting talent. The event is also fostering healthy competition, unity, discipline and sportsmanship among the participants while encouraging greater participation of girls in sports and athletics.
