JAMMU, Jun 2: BJP spokesperson and former Vice Chairman Balbir Ram Rattan has welcomed the launch of the month-long Khet Bachao Abhiyan, describing it as a transformative initiative of the Narendra Modi-led Government aimed at rejuvenating Indian agriculture, restoring soil health and ensuring long-term prosperity for farmers.
Balbir Ram Rattan said that the campaign, jointly launched by the Union Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), reflects the government’s vision of building a resilient, productive and sustainable agricultural sector. Running throughout the month of June, the campaign seeks to tackle the growing challenge of soil degradation and promote scientific, environment-friendly farming practices across the country.
Balbir said that by encouraging balanced fertilizer use, improving soil fertility and spreading awareness about modern agricultural techniques, the campaign will help bring renewed vitality to Indian agriculture. He added that healthy soil is the foundation of prosperous farming, and protecting it is essential for securing the future of the nation’s food security and rural economy.
Highlighting the significance of the campaign, Balbir said that excessive and imbalanced use of chemical fertilizers over the years has adversely affected soil health in many regions, reducing productivity and increasing cultivation costs for farmers. The Khet Bachao Abhiyan seeks to address these concerns through awareness drives, field demonstrations and farmer outreach programmes that will educate cultivators about the judicious use of fertilizers and the importance of soil testing.
He appreciated the campaign’s core message of “Kam Khaad, Sahi Khaad Aur Sahi Salah” (Less Fertilizer, Right Fertilizer and Right Advice), stating that it promotes responsible farming while protecting natural resources. The initiative will encourage farmers to adopt sustainable agricultural practices that improve crop yields without compromising environmental balance.
Balbir further said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the agriculture sector has witnessed several farmer-centric reforms and welfare schemes aimed at enhancing productivity, increasing incomes and ensuring sustainable growth. He noted that programmes such as Soil Health Cards, PM-KISAN and the promotion of natural farming have already strengthened the farming community.
Expressing confidence in the success of the campaign, Balbir urged farmers, agricultural experts, extension workers and local institutions to actively participate in the Khet Bachao Abhiyan. He said that collective efforts towards conserving soil health and promoting scientific agriculture will help realize the vision of a self-reliant, prosperous and environmentally sustainable agricultural India.
