JAMMU, Oct 29: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Jammu has filed a chargesheet against two accused in an alleged multi-lakh government job scam involving approximately Rs 25 lakh, officials said on Thursday.
According to a Crime Branch official, the chargesheet has been submitted before the Court of Sub Judge, Jammu, against Peerzada Abdul Hamid, a resident of Damhal, Anantnag, and Muneer Hussain, a resident of Sangyote, Mendhar, Poonch, in connection with FIR No. 43/2019 registered under Sections 420 and 120-B of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).
The case was registered at Police Station Crime Branch Jammu on the directions of the court following a complaint lodged by Muneer Hussain against Peerzada Abdul Hamid, alleging job fraud.
The official said that the investigation, led by Inspector Meenu Sharma, allegedly revealed that both accused had conspired to cheat unemployed youth by promising them government jobs and collecting money from them.
Investigators further alleged that Muneer Hussain, who initially approached the authorities as the complainant, was himself involved in the alleged conspiracy and had filed a complaint against the other accused to evade his liability.
The investigation reportedly uncovered evidence indicating that the accused had allegedly defrauded unemployed youth of approximately Rs 25 lakh. Statements of witnesses and documentary evidence were examined during the investigation, following which the chargesheet was presented before the competent court for judicial proceedings.
The Crime Branch official advised the public, particularly unemployed youth and job seekers, to remain vigilant against fraudsters who exploit their aspirations by offering government jobs in exchange for money.
People who have been victims of such economic offences have been urged to report the matter to the Crime Branch EOW Jammu.
Complaints can also be submitted through email at sspcrimejmu@jkpolice.gov.in or by contacting the department at 0191-2578901, the official said.
