KATRA, Jun 2: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), through its SciTech Club operating under the Board of Professional Activities (BPA), successfully organized a field-based scientific activity cum trekking expedition to Kareri Lake in the picturesque Dhauladhar Range of Himachal Pradesh.
The unique expedition blended adventure with scientific learning, providing students with an opportunity to engage in hands-on atmospheric research while exploring the Himalayan landscape. During the trek, participants utilized advanced sensor-based instruments to measure atmospheric pressure and temperature variations at different altitudes.
Students collected and analyzed real-time field data, enabling them to validate theoretical concepts related to atmospheric physics and environmental science through practical observations. The exercise offered valuable exposure to scientific methodologies and data-driven analysis in a natural setting.
Apart from scientific exploration, the expedition familiarized students with the fragile Himalayan ecosystem and highlighted the importance of environmental conservation. The activity encouraged experiential learning, critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving skills among participants.
University authorities appreciated the initiative, describing it as a significant step towards promoting research-oriented education beyond conventional classroom learning. They emphasized that such field-based programmes help bridge the gap between theory and practice while enhancing students’ understanding of scientific concepts through direct observation and experimentation.
