JAMMU, Oct 20: Bajrang Dal, the youth wing of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), organised Shastra Pujan programmes on the occasion of Vijayadashami (Dussehra) across the country, including the Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh region, to highlight the importance of protecting Dharma and preserving Sanatan traditions.
At the VHP’s provincial headquarters, Shakti Ashram, Jammu, the programme featured Kanya Pujan and Shastra Pujan, reflecting the religious and cultural significance of Vijayadashami.
Addressing the gathering, VHP National Secretary Gulab Singh said that Bajrang Dal functions on the principles of Seva, Suraksha and Sanskar (service, security and values). He stressed the importance of educating the younger generation about the significance of both knowledge and scriptures, as well as weapons, in the protection of Dharma and Sanatan traditions.
Gulab Singh recalled the traditional account of the Pandavas worshipping their weapons during their exile before preparing for battle against Duryodhana. He referred to Virat Nagar, identified in the programme’s account with present-day Akhnoor, and highlighted the cultural significance of the ritual.
He also referred to Lord Shri Ram’s worship of weapons before his battle with Ravana, which culminated in victory on Vijayadashami. He said the festival symbolises the triumph of good over evil and reinforces the values of courage, righteousness and duty.
The observance of Shastra Pujan, he noted, serves as a reminder of the responsibility to uphold religious and cultural traditions while maintaining a commitment to the protection of society.
Prominent among those present were Swarn Singh, VHP Provincial Minister; Dr. S.S. Sambyal; Rajan Gupta; Siddhant Randhawa; Vishal Mahajan; and several Bajrang Dal members.
The programme concluded with a renewed emphasis on preserving Sanatan traditions, promoting cultural awareness among the youth and upholding the values associated with Vijayadashami.
