JAMMU, Oct 19: Telecom operator Vodafone Idea (Vi) has launched what it describes as India’s first prepaid family plan, allowing customers to form family groups, share mobile data and avail discounts on recharges through the Vi App.

The new initiative, introduced under the brand’s ‘Vi Pe Sab Hain VIP’ promise, aims to make prepaid services more flexible by enabling family members to support one another with mobile data, regardless of their location across the country.

Under the new proposition, active Vi prepaid subscribers can create a family group through the Vi App with up to four members, including one primary member and three secondary members. Each member retains their individual prepaid plan and validity while gaining the option to share data with other members whenever required.

The plan allows members to transfer 500 MB of data at a time to another family member who is running low on data. The company said the feature is designed to help users remain connected during important video calls, online classes, navigation and access to essential digital services.

In addition to data sharing, every member of the family group can receive discounts of up to 10 per cent on each recharge made through the Vi App, offering potential savings for participating customers.

Speaking about the launch, Avneesh Khosla, Chief Marketing Officer of Vi, said the initiative reflected the company’s approach to making prepaid services more relevant to customers’ everyday needs. He said the future of prepaid services was not only about providing more data but also about giving users greater flexibility in how they accessed and shared it.

Khosla added that the initiative represented a step towards making prepaid connectivity more inclusive by allowing families to share data whenever a member needed it, irrespective of their location in India.

To promote the new offering, Vi has introduced a campaign featuring Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan. The advertisement showcases how the prepaid family plan can help family members living in different cities remain connected and share data benefits.

The company said customers can create family groups across telecom circles, add eligible members and access shared connectivity benefits, family management features and exclusive rewards through the Vi App.

The launch marks Vi’s latest effort to introduce new features in the prepaid segment, with an emphasis on shared benefits, convenience and savings for families using mobile connectivity across different locations.
