JAMMU / MOHALI, May 31: On World No Tobacco Day on Sunday , Max Hospital, Mohali raised awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and emphasized the importance of quitting to prevent life-threatening diseases, especially cancer.
Tobacco consumption-whether through smoking or smokeless forms is one of the leading causes of cancer and other serious health conditions, including heart disease and lung disorders. Despite widespread awareness, its use continues to be a major public health concern, said Dr. Akanksha, onco consultant.
She further said, “Tobacco is one of the biggest risk factors for multiple types of cancer, including oral, lung, and throat cancers. The good news is that quitting tobacco at any stage can significantly reduce these risks. Awareness, early screening, and timely intervention can save lives.”
