DODA, Oct 13: Government Degree College (GDC) Doda, through its Alumni Committee, organised an inspiring interaction programme to observe the International Day of the Girl Child 2026, focusing on the theme “End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights.”
The programme aimed to sensitise students about the rights of girls, the importance of education, gender equality and the need to create an enabling environment for girls to realise their full potential.
Nazish Nawaz, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Jammu, and a proud alumna of GDC Doda, attended the programme as the guest speaker. Drawing from her professional journey and personal experiences, she interacted with students and highlighted the importance of perseverance, self-confidence, education and professional commitment in achieving success.
During the interaction, Nazish Nawaz emphasised the need to safeguard the rights of the girl child and eliminate social practices such as child marriage, which adversely affect girls’ education, health, dignity and future opportunities. She stressed that investing in girls’ education and empowerment was essential for building an equitable, progressive and inclusive society.
She encouraged students to pursue their aspirations with determination, develop a strong sense of responsibility and contribute positively to society. Her interaction offered valuable insights into the importance of hard work, discipline and dedication in overcoming challenges and achieving professional goals.
The programme held special significance as Nazish Nawaz returned to her alma mater in her capacity as a police officer, inspiring students through her achievements and professional journey. Her presence also highlighted the importance of alumni engagement in mentoring students and strengthening the bond between educational institutions and their former students.
The interaction provided students with an opportunity to engage directly with an accomplished professional, seek guidance and reflect on the role of education in promoting gender justice and social transformation.
Dr Jamsheed Ahmad, Convener of the GDC Doda Alumni Committee, coordinated and managed the programme. The initiative reflected the college’s continued commitment to student empowerment, gender sensitisation and the promotion of an inclusive academic environment.
The programme concluded with the felicitation of Nazish Nawaz, who was presented with a memento as a token of appreciation and affection.
