KATRA, Oct 1: Government Degree College (GDC) Katra, in collaboration with its NSS Unit, Red Ribbon Club and NCORD, organised a cleanliness drive on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of cleanliness, discipline and community service.
The drive was organised to create awareness among students about the importance of maintaining cleanliness in and around the college campus and to encourage them to adopt responsible and hygienic habits in their daily lives. Students and volunteers actively participated in cleaning the college premises and surrounding areas.
As part of the initiative, the volunteers enthusiastically undertook Shramdaan, collecting waste and ensuring its proper disposal. The activity highlighted the importance of individual responsibility in maintaining clean public spaces and contributing towards a healthier and more sustainable environment.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rajni Bhagat, Principal, GDC Katra, appreciated the efforts of the NSS volunteers, Red Ribbon Club and NCORD members. She encouraged the students to carry the message of cleanliness beyond the college campus and inspire people in their respective communities.
The programme also provided an opportunity to recall Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of a clean and healthy India and his emphasis on cleanliness and civic responsibility as important elements of nation-building.
