Residents oppose establishing of garbage segregation centre in New Rehari, threaten agitation

JAMMU, MARCH 28: New Rehari Mohalla Association has vehemently opposed the decision of Jammu Municipal Corporation to open a garbage segregation centre in the New Rehari area and threatened to launch agitation if decision not withdrawn.

In a statement issued to media here today, Rajiv Mahajan, member of the Association said that on behalf of the people and traders of the area we condemn this initiative of the Jammu Municipal Corporation as the decision would have a far reaching impact on the health of the people living in this area and its vicinity. Questioning the JMC he said that it is an irony that the local body being considered to be the guardian of health of the people as well as sanitation of the areas within its jurisdiction has decided to conduct the activity that normally is conducted in outskirt areas sans substantial population, in this densely populated area of New Rehari.

“We would not allow JMC to open garbage collection centre in Rehari at any cost. Here the people are already facing lack of basic amenities besides being irked by defunct street lights and other civic issues. In such a situation, instead of resolving the aforesaid issues JMC is heading towards creating yet another major problem for the residents of this area,” the member lamented.  He alleged that as of today the people of New Rehari and Old Rehari are facing shortage of car parking space and the people suggest to the JMC that instead of opening Segregation Centre it should construct a multistoried car parking in the area.

The Residents of the area warned the JMC authorities against the erroneous decision, urging them to withdraw this decision at the earliest in the interest of the health of the residents and sanitation of the area. They threatened that they will come on roads if the JMC fails to withdraw the aforesaid decision.
