JAMMU, Sep 14: Mission Statehood Jammu Kashmir president Sunil Dimple led a protest rally along with traders and residents of Bakshi Nagar, Amphalla, New Plot, Janipur, Roop Nagar and Bantalab against the proposed construction of flyovers in the Bakshi Nagar-Amphalla-Janipur areas.
The protesters marched from Amphalla towards New Plot and raised concerns over the possible impact of the proposed projects on residential properties, shops and livelihoods.
Addressing the gathering, Dimple appealed to traders and residents to oppose what he described as the “double standard” of the BJP over the proposed flyover projects.
He alleged that while BJP leaders had raised concerns regarding displacement of shopkeepers in other areas, the party was supporting flyover construction in Bakshi Nagar, Janipur and adjoining areas.
Dimple alleged that the proposed projects could affect houses and businesses and claimed that thousands of traders and residents could be impacted. He demanded that the government make the detailed plan and blueprint of the projects public.
He also questioned how the government proposed to rehabilitate affected shopkeepers and residents if properties were acquired for the projects.
Dimple alleged that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which functions under the Union Government, was involved in the development of the road projects and demanded clarity from BJP leaders regarding their position on the proposed flyovers.
