JAMMU, Sep 13: In a significant community health initiative aimed at taking specialised medical care closer to the people, senior BJP leader and former Sarpanch Adv. Devraj Sharma, in collaboration with the LA Krishna Foundation, organised a free medical camp at Miran Sahib on Sunday, providing residents with access to expert consultation, health check-ups and medicines without any cost.
The camp was conducted by Dr. Sushil Sharma, Head of Department, Heart Super Specialty Hospital, Jammu, along with two other physicians and his medical team. A large number of people from Miran Sahib and adjoining areas availed themselves of the facility and consulted doctors regarding various health concerns, particularly those related to heart disease and diabetes.
The initiative assumed particular significance for people living in rural and peripheral areas, where access to specialist consultation can sometimes involve considerable travel, expense and delay. By bringing experienced medical professionals directly to the community, the camp provided an opportunity for residents to seek medical advice at an early stage and become more conscious of the importance of preventive healthcare.
Speaking to the people, Dr. Sushil Sharma emphasised that regular health screening and timely medical consultation are essential for preventing complications associated with heart disease and diabetes. He advised people not to ignore persistent health complaints or wait until symptoms become severe before seeking medical attention.
Dr. Sushil stressed that people should pay attention to basic health indicators such as blood pressure, blood sugar and other relevant parameters, particularly those with a family history of heart disease or diabetes and individuals who have already been advised to monitor these conditions.
He also underlined the importance of adopting a healthy and disciplined lifestyle, including a balanced diet, regular physical activity, adequate rest and avoidance of habits that can adversely affect health. He advised patients already suffering from chronic conditions to follow their doctors’ advice and prescribed treatment regularly rather than discontinuing medicines on their own.
The cardiologist further emphasised the importance of early detection and prevention, observing that many serious health complications can be reduced when risk factors are identified and managed in time. He encouraged people to regard routine medical examinations as an important part of maintaining good health rather than something to be undertaken only when illness becomes serious.
The medical team conducted check-ups and provided consultations to beneficiaries, while free medicines were also distributed to eligible patients. The camp was especially beneficial for elderly persons and people seeking guidance regarding cardiac and diabetes-related concerns.
Speaking on the occasion, Adv. Devraj Sharma said that the objective of organising such initiatives was to create greater health awareness among people and ensure that residents, particularly those in rural areas, receive an opportunity to interact directly with qualified medical professionals.
He said healthcare should not remain limited to hospitals and urban centres and that community-based medical initiatives can play an important role in encouraging people to undergo timely check-ups and seek expert advice. He expressed gratitude to Dr. Sushil Sharma and his medical team as well as the LA Krishna Foundation for extending their support to the initiative.
Adv. Devraj Sharma said that such camps should not be viewed merely as one-day medical programmes but as an effort to create a culture of preventive healthcare, where people become more conscious of their health and encourage their families and neighbours to undergo timely medical examinations.
The initiative also generated awareness among residents about the need to take heart and diabetes-related symptoms seriously and to avoid postponing medical consultation. The organisers appealed to beneficiaries to share the message of preventive healthcare with other members of the community, particularly elderly people and those who may not routinely undergo health check-ups.
Prominent among those who assisted in the successful conduct of the medical camp were Subash Choudhary, Principal (Retd.); Surinder Choudhary, Ex-Naib Sarpanch; Yashpal Raina, Social Worker; Raj Kumar Raja, Social Worker; Raju; Akshay Kumar; Varinder Verma, Panch; Pawan, Panch; Jeet Raj Sharma, Glass House; Davinder Sharma; Lekh Raj; and Harjeet Singh, Panch.
The organisers described the camp as an important step towards strengthening community-level healthcare and expressed hope that similar initiatives would continue to provide people with greater access to medical guidance and health awareness.
