DARHAL, Sep 5: Government Degree College Darhal celebrated Teachers’ Day with great enthusiasm and academic fervour to honour the invaluable contribution of teachers in shaping individuals, society and the nation. The programme was organized by the College Cultural and Literary Committee under the patronage and guidance of the Principal, Prof. Zamir Ahmed Mirza.
The event featured an insightful lecture on the role and importance of teachers, along with an engaging debate competition in which students from different semesters of the college participated enthusiastically.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Anzar Ahmed highlighted the timeless role of teachers in human civilization, tracing their importance from the earliest traditions of knowledge-sharing to the present age.
He emphasized that teachers have always been mentors, guides, role models and builders of character who transmit knowledge, values and wisdom from one generation to another.
Referring to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, he noted that education enlightens the mind and strengthens character. He urged students not to measure education merely through marks, but to focus on knowledge, confidence, curiosity, empathy, discipline and becoming responsible human beings.
He also emphasized that teaching is a noble responsibility and a lifelong journey in which teachers themselves continue to learn from their students.
He acknowledged the important support of parents and called for collective efforts by teachers, students and parents to build a responsible, compassionate and progressive society.
The debate competition was one of the major highlights of the celebration. Students from various semesters participated actively and presented their views with confidence, clarity and logical reasoning. The competition provided students with an opportunity to enhance their communication skills, critical thinking, public speaking and ability to appreciate diverse perspectives.
After evaluation of the performances, Asia Kosser of Semester 3rd secured the first position, while Asia Naiz of Semester 1st secured the second position and Rafia Kosser of Semester 1st secured the third position. The winners were appreciated for their impressive articulation, confidence and command over their arguments.
The programme witnessed the active participation of faculty members, including Prof. Ghulam Abbas, Dr. Taseem Ahmed, Dr. Mohd Akhlaq, Dr. Mohd Shakoor, Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed, Dr. Zarkha Sultan, Dr. Hilal Tantray, Dr. Musheer ul Hasan, Dr. Inam Ul Haq, Dr. Atta Ul Rehman Malik, Dr. Tariq Bhat, Dr Zahid Hussain, Jameel Ahmed, Sadam Hussan and Altaf Hussain, along with other teaching and non-teaching staff and students of the college.
The celebration provided an opportunity for students to express their gratitude and respect towards their teachers and reflect upon the profound influence educators have on their academic, personal and social development. The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to uphold the values of knowledge, discipline, character, empathy and responsible citizenship, reaffirming that teachers remain the guiding force in shaping the future of individuals and the nation.
