‘Prakriti Vandana’ celebrated at Govt SPMR College of Commerce

JAMMU, Sep 4: Eco Club and Department of Environmental Sciences in collaboration with NSS units of Government SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu, organized ‘Prakriti Vandana’, a meaningful program dedicated to celebrating and expressing gratitude towards Mother Nature. The program aimed to promote environmental awareness, encourage the conservation of natural resources, and strengthen the bond between people and nature.

As part of the celebrations, Bhoomi Poojan was conducted to invoke the blessings of Mother Earth. This was followed by veneration of sacred Peepal (Ficus religiosa) tree. A traditional thread was tied around it and flowers were offered as a mark of reverence towards nature. The gathering also pledged to conserve and respect nature, discourage use of plastic and promote sustainable and environment-friendly practices. Students also tied rakhis to trees to show their love and gratitude towards nature.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Gupta emphasized the need for collective efforts to protect and preserve the environment for future generations. He highlighted the importance of addressing challenges such as climate change, environmental degradation and biodiversity loss through active individual and community participation. He further encouraged students to adopt environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives and stressed the importance of nurturing a culture of respect, sensitivity, and responsibility towards nature among the younger generation. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the faculty members and students of the college.

The program was coordinated by Dr. Deepshikha Sharma and Dr. Deepak Pathania, NSS Programme Officers, Prof. Esha Abrol, Convener Eco Club and Dr. Roomi Rani.

Dr. Chetna Gupta, Prof. Shaji Khan, Dr. Neeru Anand, Dr. Mamta Rani, Prof. Anju Gotra, Prof. Ravi Kumar, Dr. Akanksha Kaushal were also present on the occasion.

The celebration served as a meaningful reminder of the intrinsic relationship between human well-being and nature, reinforcing the message that protecting the environment is a collective responsibility.
