JAMMU, Sep 4: On the sacred and auspicious occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, BJP spokesperson Zorawar Singh Jamwal extended heartfelt greetings to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and emphasized that the teachings of Lord Krishna — as immortalized in the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita — carry a relevance today that is not merely spiritual, but deeply civilizational and national in character, especially for a region that has endured decades of terrorism and subversion.
“Shri Krishna Janmashtami is not simply the celebration of a divine birth; it is a celebration of the eternal triumph of dharma over adharma, of righteousness over deceit, and of courage over fear,” Jamwal said.
“Lord Krishna’s life itself was a continuous struggle against tyranny — from Kansa to Jarasandh to Shishupal — and that struggle finds its echo even today in Jammu and Kashmir, where our nationalist forces, our security personnel, and our common citizens are locked in a determined fight against anti-national and subversive elements who wish to see this land burn in the fire of separatism”, he said.
Zorawar elaborated that the Bhagavad Gita, delivered on the battlefield of Kurukshetra at the moment when Arjuna was overcome with doubt, despair, and moral confusion, remains history’s greatest guide for any nation or people confronting adversity.
“When Arjuna stood paralyzed, unwilling to fight even against forces of injustice because of misplaced attachment and fear, it was Lord Krishna who reminded him of his duty — his dharma. That message is exactly what the people of Jammu and Kashmir need to internalize today: that hesitation, appeasement, and fear in the face of terror only strengthen the enemy, while resolute, righteous action defeats it.”
Highlighting specific teachings from the Gita, he noted the relevance of several core concepts to the present situation in the Union Territory:
On the doctrine of Nishkama Karma (selfless action), Zorawar Singh Jamwal said this teaches that duty must be performed without attachment to personal gain or fear of loss — a principle that mirrors the sacrifices made daily by soldiers, police personnel, and civil administrators who serve Jammu and Kashmir often at great personal risk, without expectation of reward.
On Sthitaprajna (the steady, unwavering mind), it was noted that Krishna’s description of a person of stable wisdom — one who remains undisturbed by adversity and unmoved by fear or temptation — is precisely the resolve that citizens of the Union Territory must cultivate against propaganda, misinformation, and psychological warfare waged by anti-national elements and their sympathizers.
On the assurance in the Gita that dharma is always protected and restored — “yada yada hi dharmasya glanir bhavati” — he said this offers confidence that the forces of nationalism, unity, and peace will ultimately prevail over those seeking to disturb the hard-won peace and progress in Jammu and Kashmir.
Zorawar further said that Lord Krishna’s own strategic wisdom as guide, statesman, and warrior offers a template for how the state must approach subversive threats — with clarity, firmness, and an unwavering commitment to justice, rather than appeasement or ambiguity.
“Krishna never advocated passivity in the face of adharma. He advocated decisive, righteous action. This is the spirit that has guided the fight against terrorism and separatism in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years, and this is the spirit that must continue.”
Appealing directly to the public, BJP spokesperson Zorawar Singh Jamwal urged people across Jammu and Kashmir — cutting across regions, communities, and generations — to draw strength and inspiration from Lord Krishna’s life and teachings, to remain vigilant against those who seek to exploit religion, region, or grievance to divide society, and to stand united with the nation in defeating what it called the “nefarious designs” of forces inimical to peace and development in the Union Territory.
Singh extended warm wishes to the people of Jammu and Kashmir on the occasion of Janmashtami, expressing hope that the festival would renew collective faith in dharma, duty, and national unity, and strengthen the resolve of every citizen to work toward a peaceful, progressive, and terror-free Jammu and Kashmir.
