JAMMU, Sep 3: A vibrant Punjabi Poetry Recitation and Storytelling Programme titled “Asmita” was organised by the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, in collaboration with Government College for Women (GCW), Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, providing students and literature enthusiasts an engaging platform to celebrate Punjabi language, poetry and storytelling.
Khalid Hussain, Member, Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Dr. Shalini Sharma, Principal, GCW Bhagwati Nagar, was the Special Guest.
The poetry recitation session witnessed impressive performances by Dr. Gurpreet Kour, Dr. Amanpreet Kour and Smt. Amarjeet Neer, who enthralled the audience with evocative and thought-provoking compositions. Their recitations reflected the depth, richness and expressive beauty of Punjabi literature and received an enthusiastic response.
The storytelling segment was presented by renowned storyteller Smt. Taranjit Kour, whose engaging narration captivated the audience and brought out the artistic and cultural richness of Punjabi storytelling.
Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries appreciated the initiative and stressed the need to provide young students with greater opportunities to engage with Punjabi language, literature and cultural heritage. They observed that literary gatherings of this nature help strengthen the connection of the younger generation with their linguistic and cultural roots.
Dr. Shalini Sharma, Principal, GCW Bhagwati Nagar, appreciated the efforts of the Sahitya Akademi and the organisers for bringing distinguished literary personalities to the institution. She emphasised that such programmes provide students with valuable exposure to literature while nurturing creativity, literary sensibility and cultural awareness.
The programme also witnessed the participation of several prominent writers and literary personalities, including Dr. Javaid Rahi, Swami Anternirav, Hardeep Singh Deep, Jaswinder Singh Jammu, Jung Singh Verman and Dr. Poonam Kumari, among others.
The gathering provided an enriching interaction between established literary figures and students, creating an atmosphere of appreciation for Punjabi literary traditions.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks to the dignitaries, writers, participants, organisers and audience members whose presence contributed to making “Asmita” a meaningful and memorable literary event.
