JAMMU, Sep 1: International Delhi Public School (IDPS), Ghou Manhasan successfully hosted the 16th District Jammu Rope Skipping Championship 2026, witnessing enthusiastic participation from around 450 young athletes representing nearly 25 schools from across Jammu district.
The two-day championship provided a competitive platform for young athletes to showcase their talent while promoting sportsmanship, fitness, discipline and a healthy competitive spirit among school students. Prominent participating institutions included IDPS Jammu, DPS Jammu, Cambridge School, Jammu Sanskriti, Jodhamal Public School, IDPS Akhnoor, Heaven Kingdom High School, GD Goenka Public School Akhnoor, JK Public School, Shangrilla Public School, APS BD Bari, Major Institute of Education, SNS Vidya Mandir, KC Gurukul School and other schools.
The championship was conducted by the Rope Skipping Association of Jammu & Kashmir (RSAJK), affiliated with the J&K Olympic Association, in collaboration with the Sports & Culture Association of India.
The closing ceremony was graced by Surender Kumar Bhagat, MLA Marh, as the Chief Guest. Manjit Singh, Chairman, Kalarippayattu Association of J&K, and Varuneshwar Singh, SHO Domana, attended the function as Guests of Honour.
The ceremony was also attended by Siya Singh, Managing Director, IDPS Ghou Manhasan; Sahrish Ismaily, Principal, IDPS Ghou Manhasan; Mubeen Butt, Vice Principal, IDPS Ghou Manhasan; Shikha Choudhary, School Manager; Danish Sharma, Working Secretary, RSAJK; and Rudrakshit Gupta, Technical Director, RSAJK.
After two days of intense competition, IDPS Akhnoor emerged as the Overall Champion, securing the first position. Vishwa Bharti School finished second, while Jodhamal Public School secured third place. SNS Vidya Mandir and KC Gurukul School, Jammu, secured fourth and fifth positions respectively.
The successful conduct of the championship highlighted the growing popularity of rope skipping as a competitive sport among school students in Jammu. The organisers appreciated the participation and efforts of all athletes, schools, coaches, officials and volunteers and congratulated the winners for their impressive performances.
The championship concluded on a positive note, reinforcing the importance of providing young athletes with structured opportunities to compete, develop sporting skills and pursue excellence in sports.
