KPC condemns Ashok Koul’s “Targeted Killings Won’t Stop” remark as shameful

JAMMU, Aug 27: The Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC), led by President Kundan Kashmiri, has expressed deep anguish and strong condemnation over the reported statement of BJP General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul that targeted killings “won’t stop,” particularly at a time when fresh threats allegedly exposing the personal details of Kashmiri Pandit employees are reportedly emerging in the Valley.

KPC said such a statement from a senior leader of the ruling party is deeply disturbing for a community that has already endured displacement, killings, threats and prolonged insecurity. It said Kashmiri Pandit employees serving in the Valley need assurance, protection and confidence rather than a message suggesting helplessness or inevitability.

Kundan Kashmiri questioned the implication of the reported remark, asking who would stop targeted killings if not the Government and its security and administrative machinery. He said the ruling establishment must demonstrate political will, administrative resolve and adequate security preparedness to protect Kashmiri Pandit employees as well as every other citizen.

KPC described the reported statement as unfortunate, irresponsible and unacceptable, asserting that such remarks could undermine the confidence of vulnerable employees while potentially emboldening those issuing threats. The organisation stressed that perpetrators of threats and targeted violence must not be allowed to operate with a sense of impunity.

The KPC demanded that every threatening communication targeting Kashmiri Pandits, particularly PM Package employees, be treated with the utmost seriousness. It called for identification and prosecution of those responsible and sought immediate strengthening of security arrangements wherever required.

“The personal details of vulnerable employees must not become an open invitation to terror,” the KPC said.

The organisation further maintained that Kashmiri Pandits should not be treated as political pawns or expendable citizens, stating that the community has already paid a heavy price due to terrorism and targeted violence. It said their safety must remain a non-negotiable responsibility of the State.

KPC urged the political leadership to send a clear message that threats and terrorism would not determine the future of Kashmiri Pandits. It also called upon the BJP leadership and the Government of Jammu and Kashmir to clarify the reported statement and reassure Kashmiri Pandit employees regarding their safety and security.

Kundan Kashmiri said the community expects leadership that inspires confidence and provides protection rather than statements that convey helplessness. He reiterated that Kashmiri Pandits would neither accept threats nor surrender to intimidation.
