JAMMU, Aug 21: A one-week workshop on “Artificial Intelligence and Software Tools” was successfully concluded at the Department of Lifelong Learning (DLL), University of Jammu. The workshop was organised by the Employment Information Cum Advisory Bureau (EIAB), the counselling unit of the Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu, with the objective of equipping participants with practical knowledge and skills in Artificial Intelligence, emerging AI tools, software applications, research resources and digital learning technologies.
During the valedictory function, Prof. Priyanka Sharma, Director, Department of Lifelong Learning, highlighted the rapidly evolving role of Artificial Intelligence in education, research and professional life.
The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Rewa Khajuria, Counsellor, EIAB, DLL. Around 45 students and scholars from the Department of Lifelong Learning, Department of Strategic and Regional Studies (DSRS), and language departments, including Punjabi and Urdu, participated enthusiastically in the programme.
Designed with a strong emphasis on hands-on learning and practical exposure, the one-week workshop covered a wide range of contemporary themes relevant to academic, research and professional development. The major areas included Artificial Intelligence and various AI tools; proficiency in software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, NVivo and SPSS; open-access publications and initiatives; publication ethics; Impact Factor; H-Index; G-Index; I-10-Index; research misconduct; One Nation One Subscription (ONOS); Indian Research Information Network System (IRINS); and plagiarism awareness and prevention.
The workshop brought together a distinguished group of resource persons from the fields of Library and Information Science, Computer Science, Information Technology and related disciplines. Dr. Promod Kumar, Associate Professor, Department of Library and Information Sciences, University of Jammu; Mr. Abhigya Mahajan, Assistant Professor, School of Computer Science and Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra; along with the team from Dhanvantri Library, including Ms. Azmat Begum, Assistant Librarian; Meghabat Singh, Semi-Professional Assistant; Riya Bajral, Semi-Professional Assistant; and Prince Partab Singh Bhatyal, Semi-Professional Assistant, contributed to the sessions on scholarly communication, research resources, publication practices and academic integrity.
The workshop provided participants with an opportunity to explore AI-driven tools, digital platforms, research software and modern information resources, enabling them to integrate technology more effectively into their academic and research fields. The interactive sessions, practical demonstrations and discussions helped students and scholars gain a deeper understanding of the opportunities and challenges associated with the rapidly evolving digital and AI ecosystem.
