KISHTWAR, Aug 18: Government Degree College (GDC) Kishtwar organised a series of awareness and student-engagement activities to mark the completion of six years of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA), in compliance with the directions of the District Administration and the Department of Social Welfare.
The programme was organised under the guidance of Prof. Lekh Raj Badyal, Principal, GDC Kishtwar, with the active coordination of Dr. S. M. Usman, NCORD Convener, GDC Kishtwar. The initiative aimed to sensitise students about the harmful effects of substance abuse and encourage them to adopt healthy, responsible and productive lifestyles.
The programme commenced with the National Pledge Against Drug Abuse, wherein the Principal, faculty members and students collectively pledged to work towards preventing drug abuse and promoting a healthy and drug-free society. The pledge reinforced the importance of collective responsibility in addressing the growing challenge of substance abuse among youth.
Following the pledge, a friendly cricket match was organised between the 3rd and 5th Semester students to promote healthy recreational activities, teamwork, discipline and positive engagement among young people. The 5th Semester team emerged as the champions, displaying excellent team spirit, coordination and sportsmanship.
The college also organised Painting and Slogan Writing Competitions on the theme “Drug Abuse Prevention and a Drug-Free Society.” Students participated enthusiastically and used their creativity to convey strong messages against substance abuse while expressing their commitment towards building a drug-free society.
In the Painting Competition, Aquil Mushtaq secured the first prize, followed by Mahruk in second place and Mehreen in third place. The competition was judged by Prof. Ajeet Kumar, Prof. Esar Ul Ayub and Dr. S. M. Usman.
In the Slogan Writing Competition, Sehjal Shan won the first prize, while Nisar Ahmed and Arif Ali Bumal secured the second and third positions, respectively. The competition was judged by Prof. Om Raj, Prof. Ashfaq Ahmed and Prof. Murtaza Ali.
The activities were organised as part of the six-year completion celebration of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and reinforced the college’s commitment to spreading awareness about the physical, psychological and social consequences of substance abuse. The programme also encouraged students to become responsible members of society and active advocates for a drug-free environment.
The programme concluded with appreciation for the enthusiastic participation of students and the valuable contribution of faculty members. The college reiterated its resolve to continue organising awareness and engagement activities in support of the national vision of building a Nasha Mukt Bharat.
