RAMNAGAR, Aug 15: Government Degree College Ramnagar celebrated the 80th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor under the esteemed patronage of Principal Prof. Daljeet Singh Manhas. The celebration witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members and students and reflected the spirit of patriotism, unity and national pride.
The celebration commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag, followed by the singing of the National Song “Vande Mataram” and thereafter the National Anthem, which filled the atmosphere with a profound sense of pride and patriotism.
Addressing the gathering, Principal Prof. Daljeet Singh Manhas highlighted the significance of Independence Day and paid tribute to the sacrifices of the freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the nation. He urged the students to uphold the values of democracy, unity, integrity and responsible citizenship and contribute meaningfully towards the progress of the country.
The programme featured a vibrant patriotic and cultural programme comprising patriotic songs, speeches, dances and other cultural performances. A traditional Dogri dance was also presented, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Jammu region and adding a distinctive local flavour to the celebrations. The performances by the students reflected their love for the nation and their enthusiasm for celebrating the historic occasion. Dr. Puyesh Kant Sharma added to the patriotic fervour by presenting a soulful patriotic song, which was warmly appreciated by the gathering.
Dr. Pankaj Sharma also addressed the gathering and spoke about the significance of Independence Day, the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and the responsibilities of citizens, particularly the youth, in strengthening the nation. He encouraged the students to uphold the ideals of freedom, unity, integrity and social responsibility in their personal and professional lives.
The welcome address was delivered by Prof. Sonia Raj, Convenor, Cultural Committee, who extended warm greetings to the gathering and highlighted the important role of educational institutions in nurturing patriotism, civic responsibility and national consciousness among the younger generation.
Faculty members also shared their thoughts on the occasion and encouraged the students to remain committed to the ideals of freedom, equality, democracy and social responsibility.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Ritika Mahajan, NSS PO, who expressed gratitude to the Principal, faculty members, students and all those who contributed to the successful conduct of the Independence Day celebration. The programme concluded with the distribution of sweets among the participants.
