KATHUA, May 15: The Department of Youth Services and Sports Kathua successfully conducted the Inter-Zone District Level Tournament competitions for U-14 and U-17 boys and girls in various disciplines amid great enthusiasm and sporting spirit.
Young athletes from different zones of the district displayed remarkable talent, teamwork and discipline during the competitions, making the event highly competitive and entertaining.
In Kabaddi, the U-17 Girls final between Upper Zone and Lower Zone was won by the Upper Zone team with a convincing margin of 31 points. In the U-17 Boys category, Lower Zone defeated Upper Zone by 22 points in an exciting contest.
In Volleyball, Lower Zone defeated Upper Zone by 2-1 sets in the U-17 Boys category, while in the U-17 Girls section, Upper Zone registered a comfortable 2-0 set victory over Lower Zone.
The Kho-Kho competitions also witnessed thrilling action. In the U-17 Boys category, Upper Zone defeated Lower Zone by a narrow margin of 2 points. In the U-17 Girls final, the winning team secured victory by 2 points after a closely fought contest.
Football matches attracted huge attention from spectators. In the U-14 Girls category, Zone Sallan defeated Zone Hiranagar by one goal in a closely contested match. In another U-17 Girls football match, Zone Hiranagar outplayed Zone Kathua by 5-0 goals.
The tournament was organised under the guidance of senior officers of the department with the objective of promoting sports culture, physical fitness and healthy competition among the youth of the district.
Officials appreciated the efforts of players, field staff and technical officials for ensuring the smooth conduct of the competitions. Participants also took a pledge to stay away from drugs and contribute towards building a healthy and progressive society under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
