DODA, Jul 12: The annual Shiya Dhar Yatra, one of the most revered religious pilgrimages in the Chenab region, concluded peacefully on Sunday with hundreds of devotees offering prayers at the sacred Chandi Mata Temple located at Chandi Top, nearly 14,000 feet above sea level.
The pilgrimage, which began from the historic village of Hanail Gadyari, witnessed enthusiastic participation from devotees belonging to the erstwhile Doda district and other parts of Jammu and Kashmir. The shrine of Chandi Mata, popularly known as Chound Mata Mindhal Wali, holds immense religious significance and attracts thousands of pilgrims every year.
A major highlight of the pilgrimage was the traditional procession of the Holy Mace (Chharri Mubarak) of the deity from its ancient abode at Hanail Gadyari to Chandi Top. This year’s sacred journey commenced on July 9 and culminated on July 12 amid religious devotion, chanting of hymns and traditional rituals.
During the four-day pilgrimage, devotees offered special prayers seeking peace, prosperity, communal harmony and the well-being of humanity. The atmosphere throughout the yatra remained devotional and festive.
One of the important halting points along the route was Trank Dhar, where pilgrims stayed overnight. The managing committee had made elaborate arrangements for bhandara (community meals) and accommodation to facilitate the devotees undertaking the arduous trek.
The district administration, in coordination with the police, ensured smooth conduct of the pilgrimage by providing essential facilities, including drinking water, lighting, sanitation and security along the route. The Indian Army also extended full support in maintaining logistics and ensuring the safe movement of pilgrims.
Officials said the annual pilgrimage to Chandi Top Shiya Dhar formally begins on June 25 every year and concludes on July 12, during which thousands of devotees visit the shrine in different batches to seek the blessings of the deity.
