Says CM is making unsubstantiated allegations to divert attention from govt’s failure to fulfill its election promises
JAMMU, Jul 12: Senior BJP leader and former Sarpanch Adv. Devraj Sharma on Sunday strongly criticised the recent statements made by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, describing them as “baseless, irresponsible and politically motivated.”
Reacting to the Chief Minister’s allegations that a BJP leader, who he claimed is a Supreme Court lawyer, attempted to destabilise his government, Adv. Sharma said the assertions were completely unsubstantiated and appeared to be an attempt to generate sympathy among the National Conference’s support base after the government had failed to deliver on the promises made in its election manifesto.
Adv. Sharma also rejected the Chief Minister’s claim that one of the National Conference MLAs was allegedly offered ₹25–30 crore, a ministerial berth and an assurance of restoration of statehood during a closed-door meeting in return for extending support. He termed these allegations “entirely baseless” and said no evidence had been produced to substantiate such serious charges.
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir voted for the National Conference expecting employment, development, better governance and public welfare. Instead of addressing these issues and fulfilling its commitments, the Chief Minister is making sensational allegations to divert public attention from his government’s failures,” Sharma said.
He further criticised the National Conference’s protest at Jantar Mantar demanding the restoration of statehood, calling it a “complete eyewash” aimed at misleading the people and creating a political narrative to cover up the government’s lack of performance.”If the National Conference is genuinely serious about the restoration of statehood, it should pursue the matter through sincere constitutional and democratic efforts rather than political theatrics,” he said.
Adv. Sharma asserted that the allegations of the BJP attempting to dislodge the Omar Abdullah-led government were nothing more than an effort to shift the public discourse away from the government’s inability to honour its electoral commitments.Reaffirming the BJP’s commitment to the development and welfare of Jammu and Kashmir, Adv. Sharma said the party would continue to expose what he described as the failures of the National Conference government and remain committed to safeguarding the interests of the people.
