JAMMU, Jul 8: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Jammu has registered an FIR against an alleged fraudster in connection with a property transaction involving approximately Rs 3.75 crore, a Crime Branch official said on Wednesday.
According to the official, the FIR has been registered against Pieary Lal Koul, son of Janki Nath Koul, a resident of House No. 108, Adarsh Vihar, Channi Deeli, Jammu, on allegations of cheating, criminal breach of trust and misappropriation.
A Crime Branch official said the case was registered following a complaint filed by a renowned Jammu-based doctor, who alleged that he had entered into an agreement to purchase a residential plot along with a house at Channi Deeli for a total consideration of Rs 3.75 crore.
“The complainant alleged that after making an initial payment, he discovered that the property had been mortgaged with a bank despite being represented as free from encumbrances. The seller allegedly assured him that the issue would be resolved, following which the complainant cleared the outstanding bank liability and subsequently paid the remaining sale consideration through bank transactions and cash, taking the total payment to nearly Rs 3.75 crore,” the Crime Branch official said.
The official added that, after taking cognizance of the complaint, the EOW registered an FIR under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). “The investigation will examine the agreement to sell, bank records, financial transactions, receipts and other documentary evidence to ascertain the facts of the case,” the official said.
