GOOL, Jul 7: Government Degree College (GDC) Gool in collaboration with the Tehsil Legal Services Committee Gool organized an awareness camp on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 at the college campus on Tuesday, 7thJuly 2026.
The programme aimed to educate students and staff about child protection laws and to create awareness regarding legal safeguards available for children against sexual offenses.
The awareness programme began with a welcome address by Principal Prof. (Dr.) Narinder Kumar. In his address, he emphasized the importance of such legal awareness programmes for students and called upon the youth to be vigilant and responsible citizens. He also appreciated the efforts of Tehsil Legal Services for spreading legal literacy at the grassroots level.
Dr. Imtiyaz Ahmad Wani, Head of the Department of Sociology, moderated the entire programme and ensured the smooth conduct of the proceedings.
The key resource person for the day was Saqib Farooq Ganai. Delivering a detailed lecture, he explained the provisions of the POCSO Act, 2012. He highlighted the objectives of the Act, reporting mechanisms, the role of institutions, and punishments prescribed under the law. He also interacted with students and cleared their doubts regarding child rights and legal procedures.
The session witnessed active participation from students, faculty members, and legal services volunteers, who raised various queries related to child safety and legal remedies.
Prof. Mohd Idrees Naik presented the formal vote of thanks. He expressed gratitude to the resource person, guests, Tehsil Legal Services Committee Gool, and all participants for making the awareness camp a success.
The programme concluded with a pledge by students to spread awareness about child rights and to contribute towards building a safe and secure environment for children.
