UDHAMPUR, Jul 5: The Jammu Kashmir Teachers’ Joint Action Committee (JKTJAC) on Sunday held its monthly meeting in Udhampur under the leadership of District President Lekh Raj Parihar, during which several long-pending issues concerning the teaching fraternity were discussed and highlighted.
The meeting witnessed the participation of executive members of JKTJAC representing all education zones of District Udhampur. Addressing the gathering, Lekh Raj Parihar raised a number of genuine and pressing demands affecting teachers across Jammu and Kashmir and urged the government to take immediate steps for their resolution.
Among the major issues highlighted was the demand for a comprehensive transfer policy for teachers appointed under the Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) scheme. Parihar pointed out that many such teachers have been serving in the same schools for more than two decades and deserve a transparent transfer mechanism.
He also expressed concern over the delay in the release of Mid-Day Meal dues pending for the last five to six months, stating that the prolonged delay has created unnecessary hardships. The committee appealed to the concerned authorities to release the pending funds without further delay.
The meeting further demanded transparency in the rationalisation and utilisation of teaching staff in District Udhampur, stressing that the existing “pick-and-choose” approach should be avoided to ensure fairness and accountability.
Other important issues raised included the conversion of Education Volunteers into ReTs, with members pointing out that related files have been pending in the administrative department for a long time. The committee also sought the conversion of the remaining Regularised Rehbar-e-Taleem Teachers (RRETs) to Teachers Grade-II/III and called for granting post-facto permission to teachers who completed their graduation while in service.
Speaking on the occasion, Lekh Raj Parihar urged the concerned authorities to address these long-pending issues in the larger interest of thousands of teachers serving across Jammu and Kashmir. He said timely resolution of these matters would boost the morale of the teaching community and strengthen the education system.
Several members, including Sham Sharma, Ashok Seth, Chain Singh, Ravinder Singh Rathore, Shamsher Singh, Ranjit Singh, Suresh Sharma, Vipin Raina, Maan Chand Khajuria, Sham Singh, Prashant Sharma, Pama Chand, Raj Kumar, Gopal Sharma, Rajiv Sharma, Sudesh Dubey, Balvinder Singh, Jagdish Chander, Kuldeep Sharma, Devinder Singh, Arjun Singh, Pardeep Kumar, Ashok Mathur, Bodh Raj, Sanjay Kumar, Ravinder Atri, Vicky Kumar and Yash Paul, also addressed the meeting and reiterated the need for early redressal of teachers’ grievances.
