JAMMU, Jul 3: The District Congress Committee (DCC) Jammu Urban on Friday held its monthly organisational meeting at the JKPCC Headquarters, Shaheedi Chowk, to review and finalise preparations for the upcoming ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ campaign. The meeting was chaired by former Minister and DCC Jammu Urban President Yogesh Sawhney and presided over by JKPCC Working President Raman Bhalla. Former MLC and I/C Headquarters Ved Mahajan, former DCC President Th. Manmohan Singh, Seva Dal Chief Vijay Sharma, and NSUI President Ajay Lakhotra were also present.
District office bearers, Assembly in-charges, Block Presidents, Ward Presidents, frontal organisation representatives and senior leaders were briefed on the campaign’s objectives, strategy and organisational framework. The leadership stressed maximum outreach among students and youth while highlighting Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s message on education, employment, social justice, equal opportunities and protection of democratic values.
The meeting unanimously welcomed the AICC’s decision to suspend two Congress members from Jammu and Kashmir for alleged anti-party activities, terming it a step towards strengthening organisational discipline. Concern was also expressed over difficulties reportedly faced by Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra pilgrims, with leaders urging the administration to improve accommodation, transport, sanitation, healthcare and other essential facilities.
Following the meeting, several leaders and workers from different political parties joined the Indian National Congress in the presence of Raman Bhalla and Yogesh Sawhney. Those who joined included Sumit Gandhi, Nitin Kapoor, Neeraj Gandhi, Rohit Gupta, Manzoor Hussain, Vazeer Ashiq Khan, Puran Chand, Sunny Gandhi, Pardeep Kumar, Parveen Kumar, Govinda, Kamlesh Malhotra, Sonu Sharma and Satish Gupta.
Welcoming the new entrants, Raman Bhalla said the growing number of people joining Congress reflected increasing public confidence in the party’s ideology and leadership. He described ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ as a movement to amplify the concerns of students regarding education, unemployment, paper leaks, shrinking job opportunities and social justice. He urged party workers to take Rahul Gandhi’s message to every educational institution and household while reiterating the party’s commitment to transparent recruitment, constitutional values and equal opportunities. Bhalla also called upon the administration to ensure the safety and convenience of Amarnath pilgrims.
Yogesh Sawhney said a strong organisation is built through discipline, dedication and sustained public engagement. He called upon all office bearers and frontal organisations to ensure the campaign reaches every ward and block of Jammu Urban. He said Congress remains committed to addressing issues related to education, employment, examinations and youth welfare, while strengthening grassroots mobilisation and booth-level organisation. Sawhney also appreciated the AICC leadership’s action on organisational discipline, describing accountability as the foundation of a strong political party.
