GDC Katra organises Parental Awareness Workshop on drug abuse

KATRA, May 13: As part of the ongoing activities under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Government Degree College Katra organised a parental awareness workshop highlighting the growing menace of drug abuse and the collective responsibility of society in protecting youth from substance addiction.

The programme was organised under the guidance and patronage of Principal Dr. Rajni Bhagat, who emphasized the important role of parents and educational institutions in identifying early warning signs of drug addiction among young people.

Addressing the participants, Dr. Rajni Bhagat stated that awareness, emotional support and regular communication between parents and children are essential in preventing substance abuse. She stressed the need for strong family support systems and community participation to build a healthy and drug-free society.

The workshop was coordinated by Prof. Mohd Younus Saleem, who sensitised participants about the harmful physical, psychological, social and economic consequences of drug abuse. He urged parents to remain vigilant regarding behavioural changes among adolescents and encouraged them to maintain a supportive and positive home environment.

Parents from nearby areas actively participated in the workshop and appreciated the initiative taken by the college administration for spreading awareness against drug addiction. The programme also witnessed meaningful interaction between parents and faculty members regarding preventive measures and strategies to tackle substance abuse among youth.

Among the faculty members present on the occasion were Prof. Shikha Bhasin, Dr. Harmeet Kour, Dr. Abdul Hafiz, Dr. Bilal Ahmed, Dr. Ishfaq Hussain and Dr. Hilal Ahmed.

The workshop concluded with a collective pledge by participants to strengthen awareness campaigns and work jointly towards creating a drug-free society.
