JAMMU, Oct 22 (Agencies): The fare for the passengers travelling in the newly-acquired 200 e-buses for Jammu and Srinagar cities would be the same as is being charged by the SRTC as of now. However, the passengers will have to pay additional GST for travelling in the high-tech e-buses in the Union Territory.
In this regard, the Housing and Urban Development Department has submitted a proposal to the Administrative Council (AC) regarding the charging of fares from the passengers travelling in the newly-acquired 200 e-buses for both Jammu and Srinagar cities.
“We have proposed the fare charges for the e-buses in J&K equivalent to the charges which the SRTC charges for its buses, but passengers will be required to pay extra GST along with their ticket price,” General Manager, Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL), Ashish Anand told Rising Kashmir.
It may be mentioned that the SRTC doesn’t charge GST from the passengers travelling in its buses as they do not have AC and heating facilities.
While the fare charges for the e-buses will be similar to those currently imposed by the SRTC, passengers will incur an additional GST cost.
The Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir has acquired 100 e-buses for each of its capital cities, Jammu and Srinagar, from Tata Motors. These high-tech buses, measuring 9 meters and 12 meters in dimension, have undergone trial runs over the last month to assess their specifications and efficiency.
